In August 2026, commercial banks reported an average finance rate of 11.9% on 24-month personal loans, 21.19% on credit card accounts overall, and 7.54% on 60-month new auto loans. Among card accounts that were assessed interest, the average was 22.36%.
The card rate was 9.29 percentage points above the personal loan rate in August 2026. In August 2025 the gap was 10.25 points. That subtraction is our calculation, and it compares two different products at different banks and borrowers.
What these numbers are not
They are not quotes and they are not offers. They are averages reported by commercial banks, and they do not describe what a borrower with a low score or a thin file would be offered. Our debt consolidation guide covers how rates look for lower scores. The loan series are published only for February, May, August and November, so the table has those months. The card series have the same publication months in the file we used.
