What this counts
The Philadelphia Fed builds these figures from loan-level data that the largest U.S. banks file with the Federal Reserve (the FR Y-14M report). Each figure is a share of accounts, not of people or dollars, and only covers banks large enough to file the report. Paying the minimum is not the same as being late. It does mean the balance is mostly carried over, with interest. Our payoff calculator shows how long a balance takes to clear at the minimum.
