What this counts

These are people, not cases or homes. The count is consumers in the New York Fed Consumer Credit Panel, scaled to the U.S., whose credit report shows a foreclosure or bankruptcy notation for the first time that quarter. A married couple filing one bankruptcy case can be two people here. Court records count cases instead; our bankruptcy filings by state page uses U.S. Courts filing counts, and the two will not match.
